It's January! Can you Believe it? We hope that you had a fantastic holiday break (I am certain it felt too short). Ours was full of extra snuggles with our own kids and the Christmas craziness. While I don't love the idea of vacation ending, it does renew my energy and allows me to revamp my approach! This week we sat down and looked at our scope and sequence and fleshed out the rest of the school year! Wild, … [Read more...]
Apple Orchard Room Transformation: or more Really Cool Centers
In my classroom we have been working hard on our math modules. It's not a secret that these modules can sometimes be a little dry and dare I say it....boring. Last module I created the Array Bakery to help motivate students to practice their multiplication and division skills. I did a simple room transformation by adding a few table cloths and bringing in my kitchen gadgets. You can read about it on the blog here. Motivating your students to want to … [Read more...]
Array Bakery: Multiplication Room Transformation (or some really cool centers)
I was in the shower (sorry if TMI:)) ready to bang my head against the wall over the struggles I was having teaching the distributive property to my class. I tried everything I could think of and it was boring the kids to tears. Suddenly it hit me! I ran down the stairs and quickly dumped all my thoughts down on paper! I even told my husband that he couldn't talk until I finished thinking. The Array Bakery went so well in my class! I created 7 centers … [Read more...]
Halloween Look and Find Freebie

They loved having to search for all the items in the picture and even though they didn't finish it quickly, they have been pulling it out in their spare time to continue working on it! Since they loved it so much, I decided to create a Halloween … [Read more...]
Maker’s Monday: A Gentle Start to Your Week
It's Monday morning and you are laying in bed dreaming about Sunday...right?! If you are like me, Monday's can be tough to start. This idea got us thinking that if Monday's are hard for adults, then they might be really hard for our students. Typically we give daily morning work that incorporates skills that we have been working on in class. We use this morning work time to spiral back through skills we have learned previously to help solidify skills. After … [Read more...]
The Homework Debate: Is There Middle Ground?
It seems as though I can't log on to social media without the constant debate over homework. Everyone has an opinion, and it seems that it is a very strong opinion. Some teachers have stopped giving homework, and in some places, entire districts have stopped entirely. Some people cite that students should have no homework and that there is no research-based evidence supporting benefits of homework. Other people teachers and parents that students need some … [Read more...]
