Have you ever made it to the end of a reading lesson and realized that your students NEVER READ ANYTHING NEW? I know that sounds insane, but our former reading program left a LOT to be desired. We would introduce our new text at the start of the week and then we would read it one more time during the week. We had other opportunities but they often lacked CONSISTENCY! I also wanted to be practicing ALL the different reading skills as much as possible, instead of just the skills that came with each story. You can check out some great ways to squeeze MORE READING into your day here.
With that in mind, I set out to create a resource that provided students with a DAILY SPIRAL REVIEW that helped with fluency and GREW with them as the year progresses. These Daily reading passages have been a LIFE CHANGER for my class. Students get to read the same passage 2 days in a row. This helps them with their reading FLUENCY, VOCABULARY, and DEEPER COMPREHENSION!
I use these as MORNING WORK or in my small groups! I created these with the idea that kids will be reading and responding to text EVERY SINGLE DAY. What a huge difference this has made for my students. I also was sure to include many different genres so that students can practice READING and RESPONDING to poetry, fiction, nonfiction, biographies, autobiographies etc.
I also was sure to create the passages in a way that allows them to be used in ANY MONTH. This provides me with the ability to pick and choose and get ahead or behind as we progress through the school year.
If you are interested in trying out these Daily Reading Passages, you can grab a FREE sample of them in our Free Resource Library! If you love them, you can grab the first month here or the complete set here.
Happy reading!
