In our last post, we shared some of the ways we are making our Balloon Countdown work remotely for the final 10 days of school (yes we are still not out yet). You can check out the post here to see the first few things we had planned. These included Pinwheel Flower delievery, S’Mores Day, Chopped Challenge, and Summer Birthday celebrations! This post is going to be all about the last few days of the Balloon Pop!
We purchased a virtual Balloon Pop slide show to use, since we aren’t in the classroom. This was so easy to just type in the days and share via a quick video with our class. You can get this countdown here from the Passmore Teacher Store.
Kindness Day
We have a great idea for a Kindness Day and we finally have nailed down the details! We will be posting this resouce in the Google Classroom and each student will be able to write a kind message or compliment for the other students in the class. They will go through each slide and at the end, the slides will be filled with kindness! Students will be able to print out their page and get a wonderful keepsake. You can easily create your own slides in Google Classroom by uploading each student’s photo and some typing boxes around it. If you would rather have it already done for you, click here and grab mine.
Water Fun Day
On Water Fun Day, we will be sharing some water fun ideas that families can do at their homes (fingers crossed for a hot day!) This will include bucket relays with sponges, little cups, etc. Other ideas can be water balloons, kiddie pools, filling milk jugs, and more! It will be a full day of water fun! We are using Padlet for students to share photos of this fun day!
Movie, PJ (and Popcorn?) Day
In trying to make this countdown accessible to everyone, we were trying to think of things that EVERYONE can easily do at their home. We figured PJs and a Movie were a must! On this day, students will be encouraged to stay in their Jammies and watch a movie (of favorite show). If they want, they can have a special snack such as popcorn! Easy, simple, and no work for us!
Field Day
Our PE and Health teachers put together a plan for Field Day so we are pretty lucky that we don’t have to plan anything for this day! We will just post the link to the PE teachers’ activities and then encourage students to do field day at their homes. If your PE/Health teachers aren’t putting anything together, you could easily brainstorm some good ideas…think old school relay races like putting on clothes that are too big and running, the egg on a spoon race, 3 legged race, hopping on one foot race, fill a dixie cup with water and race to fill a bigger jug, etc.
Skip an Assignment Day
This is an EASY day to do and the kids love it because they feel like they are getting away with something! It works like a FREE homework pass. I let them know in the morning that they can skip an assignment of their choice! So simple but so LOVED by both students and their parents!
Directed Drawing Day
I am going to try this one this week too…I had a thought that it might be fun to have kids bring a piece of paper and a pencil to our Googl Meet/Zoom meeting this week. Then I will dictate steps to make an unknown drawing (ex. butterfly, dragon, dinosaur, puppy, etc). Students will do these steps as I narrate them and draw myself off camera. At the end, everyone can show their drawings. It should be GREAT for a few laughs!
Last Day Parade
Our district organized a reverse parade on the last day of school! Teachers will park in the parking lots of the schools (socially distant) and sit in/on the back of their cars (like a trunk or treat). We will be able to wave as all of the students and families drive through the parking lot to say their final good bye for the year. This is going to work out much better than the original parade because students will be able to see all of the teachers, rather than the select few that drove down their street (as a big district, we all had to split up). It should be a great day full of smiles and some laughs….plus it will be great to see other people again!
A Word From Third is wishing you the best as you close out your school year.
