We did it! We survived October! This year, I feel like we deserve a medal for just surviving…What a year it has been and we are only just beginning.
We are here in Connecticut, and we are currently using the Hybrid model. We have half our kids on M,T and half on TH,F….Wednesday everyone is virtually teaching/learning. The monkey wrench is that we have some kids who are “voluntarily at home learners” and we are trying to meet their needs as well. Our district just announced the plan to switch to full time in school later this month…so things are always changing!
We wanted to pull togehter some of our favorite November activities and lessons and share them all in one place. Hopefully this will be helpful for you as you begin to make your way though another month of school!
Thanksgiving Fact Family Activities
These Thanksgiving Fact Family houses are a hit in our classroom and they are a fun way to incorporate art into math! Students have to complete fact families and then assesmble their house. They make a fantastic bulletin board! Get these ones here. There are also addition and subtraction ones too!
You can also do the fact family turkey ovens! There are two versions (addition and subtraction & multiplication and division). Each set comes with a few blank versions as well so that you can provide challenge or remediation as needed).
Multiplication Turkeys
These Multiplication Turkeys also make a great bulletin board. I send construction paper or colored copy paper right throught the copier. Then a quick cut on the paper cutter and it is ready to go! My students love adding googly eyes and the other turkey body parts!
Hands On Division Practice
Do you need more division practice? We do! We always do! These hands-on division story problems come with manipulatives for students to divide and sort out. Students love to color the large Thanksgiving graphics.
Multiplication Fact Practice
Fact practice? Yes please! These Thanksgiving color by code multiplication sheets are pefect for fast finishers! I always copy a bunch and have thm ready . The kids LOVE to choose their own. I can discretely differentiate because each picture comes in 0-5 facts or 0-11 facts!
Agamographs
Are you looking for something different? How about an Agamograph for Thanksgiving or for Veterans Day. We do this for “Maker’s Monday” as a warm up for the week. Students LOVE to see it come together. They can’t believe how it looks once it is finished! Two pictures in one!
Math Fall Units of Measure Room Transformation
My class is starting Eureka Math (Engage NY) Module 2. This module includes a lot of different skills including Units of Measure. Students have to round, tell time, choose units of measure, and more! These centers/stations make it all come to life and let kids get up and moving. They are Orchard themed so perfect for the fall!
Eve Bunting and How Many Days to America
Right before Thanksgiving we read How Many Days To America, By, Even Bunting. It is a serious story about immigration and coming to America. We talk about how the author’s purpose is to entertain us, but how this book entertains us in a more serious way. Check out more on our projects here.
So as we navigate whatever November might send our way, please try hard to take care of yourself. It is so easy to get overwhelmed and burried by expections and demands. Try hard to breathe and stay healthy.
Cheers!
